MP worrying too much about ID card details being available

The Liberal Democrat MP for our constituency Lynne Featherstone recently claimed she would refuse to carry an ID card and says that no-one has the right to hold information about her.

The MP may like to pose as a bit of a rebel, but if she were a driver, I wonder if she would refuse to carry a driving licence, or show this to a police officer if asked.

At the moment I, personally, have no strong feelings either way about the introduction of ID cards, but understand that it will make life easier for those of us who have nothing to hide.

ID cards are also nothing new, as many of an older generation will recall. As to the MP's apparent fears that the Government could make information commercially available, I don't think it has ever made National Insurance details available commercially, so see no reason why it should do so in the case of ID cards.
