First Labour secretly sell the freehold of Underhill Stadium for a mere £10,000. Now the Conservatives, not wishing to be outdone on signing away public assets, want to let Barnet Football Club build a new stadium on half of Montrose Park (Could this be the Bees' new home?', November 17).
We are told that development is permitted because the area is not classified as Green Belt or Metropolitan Open Land. However, Barnet Council leader Brian Salinger overlooks one ever so slightly important detail it's a park, Mr Salinger. Our park, not yours to sell off as you please.
We were promised an open and honest administration, yet there has been no public consultation on this proposal. The Conservatives are supposed to be the party that protects our open spaces.
Parks should be treasured and nurtured for the benefit of future generations, not disposed of as a pre-election gimmick.
