I wish to respond to last week's letter from Peter Sawyer of Brass Barnet Residents Against a Second Stadium objecting to the football club's development proposals at the southern end of their ground and on land occupied by the cricket club (Barnet FC should come clean', Letters, February 2).
The cricket club has generally refrained from writing to the press, however I think it is time that your readers are made aware that we fully support the football club's proposals.
The area of land that will be affected by this development is overgrown and is something of an eyesore. It is of no use whatsoever to the cricket club in its present state.
The development will also see the erection of a secure fence in place of the existing one which is in a state of disrepair. The football club has also agreed to replace other fencing which is beyond repair. All of this will help make us more secure.
The development will in no way interfere with our ability to play cricket our playing area and outfield will not be affected. The cricket club will also be able to use the car parking area that will be created, thus freeing local roads for residents' parking.
I am having great difficulty understanding how Brass can justify opposing everything that comes out of the football club. There is no reason to their opposition in this case since it will actually enhance the appearance of the land in question.
The cricket club welcomes this new development.
We stand to benefit from it and that makes our future much more secure. I thought that was what Brass wanted. Or have I missed a trick somewhere?
