Residents are not against football club

2:09pm Thursday 16th February 2006

In response to your correspondents' letters (Cricket club supports Barnet FC's development at eyesore site' and Group does not represent residents and wants to force FC out', Letters, February 9), your readers should be aware that the vast majority of residents are neither anti-football, nor anti-Barnet FC, and whilst accepting reasonable non-invasive improvement at the existing stadium, they are ultimately concerned to preserve the residential nature and the environmental green character of the area at Underhill.

Instead of making this latest planning application for a car park, partly on public green open space, why didn't the applicant first meet with all interested parties, including residents?

None of this is about party politics.

It was the previous Labour/Liberal Democrat council administration that let them down.

It was only Conservative councillors that gave them any support.

Peter Sawyer,
secretary, BRASS (Barnet Residents Against a Second Stadium)
