I read your recent articles advising that council tenants were to receive DIY classes so they can repair their rented accommodation, and that the group Homeless Action in Barnet took to the streets appealing to shoppers to help with gifts of food and toiletries to help persons in the borough because of shortfalls in funds.
Why is this?
It was because the previous administration had squirrelled away £27.4 million of taxpayers’ money (our money) and lost the lot on a dodgy deal that failed.
Instead of setting aside money for things such as salt for icy roads and refurbishing flats, and a general fund for unforseen emergencies, they chose to gamble the lot.
The question is how was so much money accrued? Are we paying too much for council tax? Why wasn’t more money spent in the borough? When will the truth be told? Will we receive any money back or are we the citizens of the borough never going to hear any more about the disgusting debacle as it slides ever deeper into obscurity and out of people’s minds?
I would think any information that could be obtained would be very welocme by one and all.
