Your report of the death and serious injury of three youths who pelted a bystander with eggs from their car and were then chased by the enraged victim in his own vehicle, failed to explain precisely what these blameless young men were doing driving around the streets late at night hurling eggs, and perhaps abuse, at passers-by (“Twelve-year sentence for killing teenager”, Times Series, September 29).

They were surely, to some extent, the authors of their own misfortune?

The report also failed to consider what the likely outcome would have been, had the victim politely remonstrated with them instead of crashing his car into theirs.

If recent cases in London are any guide, he would have been optimistic to expect an immediate, shamefaced apology.

One does not know all the facts of the case and I do not condone Mr Kwaik’s actions, but this is simply a plea for more balance and a sense of reality in your news reports.
