When it closed Church Farmhouse Museum in March, Barnet Council assured us the museum and its collection would remain safe in its hands.
However, at the last council meeting, in response to a Labour question about the security and possible sale of the museum collection, Councillor Robert Rams gave a written reply claiming to have disposed of only ‘old council signs and headless mummified cats’, while Cllr Richard Cornelius, who strangely believes his occupation as a jeweller gives him the expertise to value a collection of local and social history objects, ‘humourously’ implied the museum collection was worthless.
Clearly, the councillors regard the museum not so much as yesterday’s news, but more as today’s joke.
