Every day I cycle to work past Hasmonean High School, in Holders Hill Road, Barnet.

When I see brave pupils cycling despite all the traffic, I can’t help but make a sad comparison with my daughter’s school in Welwyn Garden City which has a cycle path to the school’s front door.

Cycling to school reduces the school run congestion and it keeps the kids fit so they are going to be less of a burden on the NHS later in life, thus saving all us taxpayers money and maybe event reduces the jams a bit.

So I wonder why Barnet isn’t doing more to keep its children safe and fit by providing them with proper safe cycle routes to school? Perhaps the council can explain why?
