Council pushes stadium plan
Barnet Council this week backed proposals to move Barnet Football Club to a new stadium in Montrose Park.
Conservative Council leader Brian Salinger's motion to support the move was carried at a full council meeting on Tuesday.
Opposition party members expressed fears the proposal was a publicity stunt to raise support for the Tories ahead of local elections in May.
Mr Salinger said consultation with Burnt Oak and Colindale residents could not take place until the club came forward to discuss the idea with the council.
"Montrose Park will be a wonderful site to provide a stadium for the next century.
"If we do work together as a council, and with the club, then we can find a solution," said Mr Salinger.
Labour group leader Alison Moore said Barnet FC had been used as a political football' over the past three years.
