Two early goals and two contentious converted penalties helped Morecambe to a 4-1 victory over Barnet.

Goals scored by Kevin Ellison and Andrew Fleming in the first ten minutes had put the hosts comfortably ahead at the break.

Barnet failed to threaten the Shrimps goal but the two late penalties flattered the home side.

Richard Brodie sent stack the wrong way twice to seal victory for the Shrimps before Jon Nurse grabbed a late consolation for the Bees.

Mark Robson and Edgar Davids named an unchanged side but the Bees started the contest poorly.

Graham Stack had already produced a fine stop to deny Lewis Alessandra before the home side went ahead with just five minutes played.

A throw in from Andrew Wright allowed Ellison to hold off David Stephens, turn and strike towards goal. His effort deflected off Krystian Pearce and into the corner.

From their next meaningful attack, Morecambe added a second. Again an individual error was punished as Pearce’s loose touched allowed Gary McDonald to slide a pass into the path of Fleming who produced a neat finish.

The rest of the opening period was fairly uneventful with the hosts content to defend and limit chances.

Davids had a shot from distance easily saved by Andreas Arestidou while Clovis Kamdjo saw an effort from close range blocked.

As the two sides went in at the break and scuffle involving Ellison and Stack saw the pair booked.

The Bees made half time change with Nurse on in place of Anthony Edgar. The former Dagenham & Redbridge man did offer more of a threat out wide but when he did deliver a cross, Barnet failed to capitalise.

Mark Byrne drilled a shot over after further good work by Nurse before the Irishman sent a tame effort into the hands of Arestidou.

With ten minutes remaining, Morecambe added a third. Fuller seemed to get a touch on the ball when he tackled Alassandra but the referee pointed to the spot.

Brodie stepped up and confidently smashed home from 12-yards.

Five minutes later, Pearce blocked a shot and the referee pointed to the spot for handball. It was a harsh decision.

Brodie again converted and sent Stack the wrong way from the spot.

In the final minute Barnet pulled a goal back. A corner wasn’t cleared by the home side and Nurse poked home from close range.

The Bees return to action of Friday night when they host Accrington Stanley.
