Zakariya Rashid has been named as Finchley Taekwon-Do student of the year.

The 13-year-old won the adult and teenager award while six-year-old Ethan Weston was named as the children's student of the year.

Nine students from Finchley Taekwon-Do School attended the TotalTKD End of Year Inter Club Competition.

The members were green belt Weston, Daniel Chiu and Bradyn Man (yellow belt) and Mihika Athavale (yellow yag). Rashid (red belt and black tag), Satish Jirapure and Ben Musker (blue belt and red tag), Sean O’Loughlin and Anoushka Bhatt (green belt), Kenny Chiu (yellow belt) also took part.

Jirapure won the adult sparring while Ben Musker was first in the over 20 adult special technique.

Buoyed by their success, all the members are now focusing on training and preparing for next year's competitions.

Instructor Malik Ayman Third Degree Black Belt, the main instructor of Finchley Taekwon-Do School, said: "I was made to feel ecstatically proud for all the students who took part, and so deeply touched watching my students' massive improvements since starting Taekwon-Do. Most of all I greatly enjoyed seeing the Taekwon-Do tenets of courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control and indomitable spirit being displayed while competing and supporting fellow students."

Finchley Taekwon-Do School train every Tuesday between 5-6pm for children aged between five and ten and Tuesday from 7-8pm for teenagers and adults in the main studio of Fitness First in High Road, North Finchley.
