Barnet joint head coach Edgar Davids was pleased with the mental strength shown by the Bees who came from behind to secure a 3-2 victory over Burton Albion.

A penalty from Billy Kee put the Brewers ahead before Ricky Holmes equalised shortly before half time.

Holmes then scored from the spot in the second period and completed his hat-trick with a cool finish after good work on the wing by Andy Yiadom.

Jacques Maghoma scored a second penalty for Burton in stoppage time but the Bees held on to secure victory and move off the bottom of the League Two table.

Davids said: “We didn’t play that well in the beginning which also resulted in the penalty but then it comes to mental strength to try and win the game.

“We changed something in the team at half time and then we started playing football. We had a lucky break to get level before half time and then we came out to win the second half.

“It is still just one game. We still have to fight for every point and that is our goal. We will take it step by step, game by game.”

On Holmes’ hat-trick, the Dutchman added: “The thing is Ricky Holmes is part of the team and for us it doesn’t matter who scores the goals. But it is always good to have somebody who is on the high. However, in the end, it is always a team effort.”

At full-time Davids decided not to shake hands with Brewers boss Gary Rowett.

The Dutch international explained: “When you are a player on the pitch things happen that you have to accept. But if you’re a manager you have to have different standards and be above the team.

“You can’t disrespect people on the side-lines. So if somebody does that and then they want to shake hands, it won’t pretend and I won’t do it.

“If you don’t show respect I am not going to play games and I won’t show any as well.”

He added: “He crossed the line. I don’t want to say too much about it but as a manager you have to be above certain things. And if that is not done then I do not respect that.”
