His Barnet side are one of the form teams in League Two but Edgar Davids maintains that every game is like a final for the Bees.

Since Davids’ arrival at Underhill in October, Barnet’s league form has improved dramatically and they have taken 26 points from 17 matches.

It has helped the Bees move off the bottom of the division and they currently sit 20th in the table. However, Davids is not prepared to dwell on previous results. He said: “We need to stay focused though and every game for us is a final. It doesn’t matter who we play against we need to get a result in.

“At the end of the day we are still near the bottom of the league.

“That is why I say every game is a final and if the teams around us keep winning, we have to keep winning.

“So that is the situation and that hasn’t changed.”

The Bees latest scalp came at Rotherham United as they claimed a 2-0 victory.

While an impressive result and an important win, the manner of the Bees’ performance received deserved praise. It was arguably the Bees’ best display of the season and Davids feels his side are constantly improving.

“When I came in to the club I saw some spells of how we wanted to the team to play,” he said. “These spells are now getting longer and we are doing well, so that makes me happy.

“However, I’ve said it before, it’s all about the progression of the team and of the players. If you play badly or you win it is about developing.

“Sometimes we have won but I didn’t see what I wanted or how we want to play. We still have a long road ahead but we are slowly and steadily getting to a phase where it is going the way I want.”

The win against the Millers means Barnet have kept back-to-back clean sheets for just the second time this season.

“The defence is ok but it starts from the front of the team,” Davids added. “If the front man doesn’t do what they are supposed to do then it makes it more difficult for the defence.”
