Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers athletes Lizzie Bird and Michael Callegari have been chosen to represent England in the 43rd Gran Premio Caceras de Campo a Traves – a cross country event in Spain.

The Under-20 competitors will be in action on Sunday when the junior women’s race is held over 5000m, while the men’s event is a 7000m run.

Meanwhile, Under-23 athlete Beth Potter secured a bronze medal in the senior women’s race at the British University Cross Country Championships in Leeds.

On a testing course, Potter crossed the line in 25.34 to take third place. Melissa Courtney (Under-20) came home in 15th in a time of 26.57.

Amy Campbell finished in 18th in 27.13 and Victoria Walker (Under-20) was 54th.

In the senior A race, William Ryle-Hodges (Under-20) secured 30th place in 35.17 and Kieran Moreland (Under-23) came home in 292nd.

In the B race, Matt Grant took 20th (28.50) and Euan Mackenzie (29.09) was 27th.

The Birmingham Indoor games were held over the weekend and Marilyn Okoro finished second in the final of the senior women’s 400m race. She is ranked eighth in the UK this year.

In the senior men’s pole vault, Gregor MacLean (Under-23) continued his good early season form to take first place with a jump of 5.10m.

In the women’s high jump, Trudy Thompson finished second with a personal best jump of 1.73m, eclipsing the 1.70m she set the previous week at Lee Valley.
