John Oster believes Barnet “do not fear” the top sides in League Two but admits it is frustrating that the Bees have struggled against the teams at the bottom of the table.

The 34-year-old starred for Barnet against Port Vale on Saturday and despite an impressive display against the league leaders, Edgar Davids’ side could only claim a point in a 0-0 draw.

It was enough to move Barnet out of the relegation zone but former Everton midfielder Oster feels the Bees must improve against the sides around them in the table.

He said: “It’s a strange one because we do not fear the top teams because we seem to do well against them.

“It is crazy because the teams in and around us we seem to struggle against. We can’t put our finger on why but if we play like we did in the Port Vale game against every team then we can’t be far away (from staying up).

“It is just frustrating that we are not churning out these results against the teams in and around us because that is what really affects us more than anything.”

The midfielder’s contract with the Bees expires at the end of the current campaign but he “fully in conversation” with Barnet chairman Tony Kleanthous.

Oster said: “I’ve spoken to the chairman and he knows my situation. We have chatted and if anything happens then he will be the first to know.

“I am fully in conversation with him all the time so if I do stay then that’s great. If I don’t then I’m not sure what I am going to do but I have no plans at the minute.”
