Jake Hyde has scored all kinds of goals for Barnet this season. His tenth of the campaign arrived in the 2-0 win against Southend United last night. A well taken header at the back post from at free-kick.

Hyde has made 32 appearances for the Bees this season. He has scored important goals in important games. A long range strike in a 1-0 success at Gillingham. The opener in a 2-1 victory against Rotherham. The winner at York City.

“It is always nice to get into double figures,” the 22-year-old said. “But the most important thing is that the team are climbing the table and winning games. If I am helping us to do that then that is fantastic.”

Hyde was surprisingly named on the bench against York but was introduced as a 66th minute substitute. He scored just seven minutes after being brought on to help the Bees to three points.

“When the manager makes a decision you have to stick with that,” the striker explained. “However, no professional footballer is going to be happy sitting on the bench. You want to be out there playing.

“If the decision does go against you for whatever reason, you have to come on a show the manager why you should be in the team.

“Hopefully I have done that. The most important thing at the moment though is the team but if I keep scoring goals then that is positive for the team and hopefully I can stay in the team.”

Over the course of the season Hyde has been paired with many players in attack and with the recent signings of Dani Lopez and Craig Beattie, there is plenty of competition for a starting birth.

“We have a lot of strikers at the club now but it has been like that all season,” said Hyde. “I think I have had something like ten strike partners this season. So there is always a lot of competition, especially as we play one up front.

“Competition is good for the squad though. It lifts players and helps them get the best out of themselves.

“It obviously gives the manager more choice as well but I always want to play – no matter what game.

“So I am going to keep fighting, score as many goals as I can and help Barnet move up the table.”
