Lydia Bedford's first game in charge of Barnet Ladies ended in a 1-0 defeat against Sunderland

Lydia Bedford’s first home game in charge of Barnet Ladies ended in disappointment after her side were beaten 1-0 by Sunderland in the Women’s Premier League.
Edgar Davids was in the stands to watch the game and the visitors made a strong start to the contest but were unable to fashion a clear shot on goal.
Barnet’s defence battled hard as the opening half wore on and Ruth Sutcliffe squandered a good chance for Sunderland.
A Stephanie Bannon effort struck the crossbar for the visitors before Sutcliffe’s shot was scrambled away by the Bees.
Sophie Williams missed another chance for Sunderland shortly before the interval as the two teams went in level at the break.
Barnet almost went ahead shortly after the restart when a Stacy Sowden effort hit the woodwork.
The visitors continued to miss chances and Beth Mead fired over when put through on goal.
It seemed as if the game was destined for a draw but with ten minutes remaining, a Bannon cross was met by Sutcliffe and she fired home the winner.
