Barnet Elizabethans face an uphill battle to avoid relegation from London Three North West League

Barnet Elizabethans face an uphill task to avoid relegation from London Three North West League after suffering a 14-11 defeat at home to Finchley on Saturday.

Elizabethans must now win three of their remaining four fixtures to avoid the drop. However, before the end of the campaign, they take on three of the top four sides in the table.

Barnet got off to the worst possible start against Finchley as the visitors crossed the line from the kick off for a converted try.

Despite the setback, Barnet fought back into the contest and two penalties from Jonny Hart reduced the deficit.

But on the stroke of half-time the visitors added a second converted try to lead 14-6 at the interval.

Elizabethans went over shortly after the restart when Glyn Bayley ran onto a clever chip kick to score.

In a tense final quarter, Finchley had more of the play and forced several penalties. However, all were missed and there were no further points added.

Barnet take a break from league action this weekend and travel to Hitchin in the Herts Tankard quarter-final.
