5:32pm Saturday 17th August 2013 in Sport
Those Barnet fans who made the long trip to Gateshead will have a happy journey home tonight after a late Jake Hyde goal gave the Bees a 2-1 win in the north east.
Edgar Davids’ side fell behind in the 32nd minute when Colin Larkin put the hosts in front but it was to be a lead which was to last only five minutes before Keanu Marsh-Brown levelled.
The game then looked to be drifting towards a draw but with two minutes remaining, Hyde netted the winner to move the Bees up to second in the fledgling Skrill Premier table, behind leaders Cambridge on goal difference.
The Bees had been the better side in the opening contest but they fell behind just after the half-an-hour mark when Larkin finished from close range.
Within six minutes though, the visitors were back on terms when Marsh-Brown was set free by Curtis Weston and he broke away before maintaining his composure to finish.
Barnet continued to be the better side after the break but after Hyde had seen a goal ruled out for offside, it looked as if Barnet would have to settle for a point.
However, the the striker was to have the last laugh as he netted the late winner to send the visitors home home.
Barnet: Stack; Yiadom, Stephens, Acheampong, Johnson; Casabella (Crawford 70), Byrne, Weston, Marsh-Brown (Vilhete 84); Gambin (Mengerink 80), Hyde. Not used: Jupp and Saville.
