Barnet boss Edgar Davids feels the Bees can match side in the Skrill Premier after they moved into top spot
Edgar Davids believes Barnet have shown they can challenge any side in the Skrill Premier after the Bees moved into top spot in the division.
A 1-1 draw against Nuneaton Town on Saturday was followed up with a 3-0 away victory against nine-man Braintree Town on Bank Holiday Monday.
It puts the Bees in first place after five games with 11 points but Davids insists he is paying no attention to the table at this early stage of the campaign.
He said: “It is nicer for the fans if you are top of the table at the end of the season. I don’t look at the table at the beginning because we are still adjusting to the league.
“There are many examples of teams that have been top of the table for six months but in the end they have come up short.
“We have showed we can challenge anybody in the division. But it is the Conference and it is going to be difficult – against Braintree we played against nine lions and that is the mentality of the Conference.
“I will never underestimate this league and that is why all our players prepare themselves and play at 110 per cent.”
Jake Hyde was on target against both Nuneaton and Braintree and the striker has netted five goals in five games this season.
He was also the Bees top scorer in the last campaign and when asked if there had been any interest in the 23-year-old, Davids replied: “There is always interest in players that do well and score goals.
“There was interest in other players as well over the summer but at the moment we have a good squad.”
While Hyde has been in fine form in front of goal, he missed a penalty against Braintree.
Davids said he will have to hold a contest to find a regular taker after the Bees’ last three penalties have been missed by three different players.
The transfer window shuts next Monday and while Davids says the squad is doing well, he added: “It can always be better. We will only bring in players that can add things to the team, it is not about quantity.”
