Wingate & Finchley have dropped to 18th in the Ryman Premier after they were beaten 2-0 by Bury Town on Tuesday.
Bury made a sluggish start but grew into the contest. They had an early goal disallowed for offside before Adam Bailey-Dennis headed a free-kick against the crossbar.
Joe Whight then forced Wingate goalkeeper Cain Davies into a good stop but three minutes before the interval, Bury made the breakthrough as Ola Williams turned the ball into his own net.
The Blues improved in the second period but Bury defended well and Wingate struggled to create a clear chance.
Bury’s crucial second goal arrived with 20 minutes remaining. Shane Tolley’s shot was saved but, from the resultant corner, he turned the ball home at the far post to seal victory.
