Hendon made a winning start to 2014 as they recorded a convincing 38-3 victory at West London in Herts/Middlesex League Two on Saturday.

Both sides missed early penalty attempts but it was the home side who went ahead with a penalty in the 20th minute.

Hendon responded positively to going behind and Brian O’Regan clattered over the line from a driving maul after good work from JP Cremin.

O’Regan then touched down for a second time and the reliable Lee Linale added the conversion to put Hendon 12-3 ahead.

There were two further Hendon scores before the interval.

Judah Simpson saw off three tackles before touching down under the posts, Linale converted, and then Mark Ivers went over with Linale again adding the extras.

West London looked to be more positive in the second period but Hendon’s defence was solid. The visitors again went over as Terry Gilbride broke through to score and Linale converted.

Hendon’s attack was reduced by a yellow card but when they were back to their full complement, Gerry O’Donoghue rounded off the victory as he went over.

Hendon are in league action on Saturday as they face Uxbridge at home.

Barnet Elizabethans’ first match of the year was postponed as Belsize Park’s pitch was waterlogged.

Elizabethans will hope to return to action as they face Haringey Rhinos on Saturday.
