Edgar Davids has left his position as Barnet head coach by mutual consent.

The Dutchman - who was also playing for the club - wasn't in attendance as the Bees were beaten 2-1 by Chester in the Skrill Premier this afternoon. It is a result which leaves Barnet tenth in the table.

A statement on the club's website read: "Barnet Football Club tonight announce that Edgar Davids has resigned by mutual agreement from his position as head-coach.

"Everybody associated with the club would like to thank Edgar for his contribution during his time here and for his help in putting together the current team structure.

"The club would also like to wish Edgar the very best of luck in what we have no doubt will be the continuation of an illustrious career."

Davids joined Barnet in October 2012 and became joint head coach alongside Mark Robson.

The Dutchman also came out of retirement to play for the Bees and his debut ended in a 4-0 victory against Northampton Town – it was the club’s first win that season.

Davids’ - who was not paid for his services - arrival helped bring an upturn in form for Barnet and he became the club’s sole head coach in December 2012 after Robson agreed to leave the Bees.

The former Juventus midfielder seemed to have steered Barnet away from relegation trouble but a poor end to the campaign meant their League Two status was lost on the final day of the campaign and the Bees dropped out of the Football League.

Despite their relegation, Davids remained at the club. However, he missed pre-season matches and then confirmed he would wear the number one shirt.

The 2013/2014 campaign got off to a good start for the Bees but Davids started to miss away matches. He didn’t to travel to Gateshead and Halifax Town and failed to explain why.

The 40-year-old continued to play for the club but his temperament was questioned on numerous occasions after he received three red cards and six bookings in just ten matches.

Ultimately it is the Bees’ faltering promotion bid which has proved costly for Davids. A 2-1 defeat at Chester - a game which he didn’t attend - brought an end to the Dutchman’s time with Barnet.

The Times Series have asked Barnet if Uli Landvreugd and Dick Schreuder will remain at the club, they were unable to comment.
