There was “no reason” as to why Edgar Davids missed Barnet’s 2-1 defeat at Chester Ulrich Landvreugd told reporters after the game. Three hours later and the Bees head coach had left the club.

The loss against the Blues proved to be Davids’ final game in charge.

Goals from Lewis Turner and Jake Reed cancelled out a strike from Jake Hyde and Landvreugd was asked after the game if there was a particular reason as to why Davids was absent.

He replied: “No reason.”

A total of 145 Bees supporters made the long journey to Chester. Landvreugd thanked the fans and said everyone was disappointed with the result.

He added: “We need every fan. I am always glad that they come and we really appreciate it. So we are disappointed for our supporters because we play for them.

“They have travelled a long way to see us play so when we lose it doesn’t make us happy. We need the support of our fans.”

Barnet were poor for the majority of the game at Chester and the Blues did enough to deserve their first victory under new manager Steve Burr.

Landvreugd described the Bees’ defending for Chester’s winning goal as “so poor” and was frustrated the visitors conceded so soon after levelling.

"It was disappointing. We came wanting a minimum of one point but we aimed for three. The things we wanted to do happened in the first half and there were good runs from Keanu that created three good opportunities.

"We had a goal ruled out for offside, I don't know if it was and I'll have to see it back."

He added: "At half time we said to keep on going and that we would get opportunities. We got it but shortly after the equaliser it was so poor defending from our side and they have scored. So we are disappointed."
