Hendon manager Gary McCann believes the number of postponed matches this season is “getting farcical” after the Greens saw two games called off this week.

Hendon were due to face Hampton & Richmond Borough in the Ryman Premier on Saturday and Staines Town in the Middlesex Senior Cup quarter-final tonight.

However, both games fell victim to the weather and a frustrated McCann said: “I must stress that nobody is to blame for this, but the situation is getting farcical.

“I am not preparing the players to play in games as much as keeping them ticking over and keeping fit for when we do get back in action.

"That said, our opponents on Saturday, Kingstonian, have got a good record for staging games recently, so we will be ready for the challenge if the game goes ahead.”

McCann believes all-weather pitches must be considered despite the cost of installing them.

He added: “The climate of this country is such that we need to look at how we can keep playing matches. I know there is a big financial issue but clubs are losing with the postponements.

“Come the end of the season we will yet again be cramming in matches in a very short period of time.

"As we have found out in recent seasons, it leads to tired bodies and performances and the increased risk of injuries. It is not fair on the players, management or fans.”
