Charlie Adams had been at Barnet a little more than a week but the Brentford loanee was impressed.

“The standard between League One and the Conference is not that much,” he admitted. “Training is great and the lads do pass the ball around very well.”

The 19-year-old signed on loan from the League One leaders for an initial month. After coming on as a substitute in victories against Tamworth and Grimsby Town, he was handed a first start against Wrexham on Saturday.

“It is a lot different to the football that I am usually playing which is Academy or Under-21 football," he said prior to the weekend win.

“This is about winning games. At academy level it is more about playing well. Sometimes you can play well and lose 5-0 whereas here you can play poorly, get a 1-0 win and the three points and that is more important.”

He added: “It’s harder in the Conference because a lot of teams do like to shell it into the penalty area.

“Academy football is not like that and I need to be able to adapt and learn positional when the ball is travelling over my head.”

Adams admits there was interest from other clubs but “nothing concrete like Barnet”.

He believes the club’s passing philosophy will help him improve and he says the players have welcomed him into the squad.

“They are a great bunch of lads,” he said. “Everyone is together in helping the team get into the play-offs and we will work as hard as we can to do that.

“When Barnet came in I wanted to go because I know what the club is about and it gives me a chance to learn.”

The midfielder, who can play in the centre or on either wing, has been impressed with The Hive and described the facilities as Championship or Premier League quality.

He believes the Bees are a club “on the up” and is open to extending his loan if he is playing regular football.

But during his initial month he hopes to help the club continue their good form and reach the Skrill Premier play-offs positions.

“I am not here to just play games but help the club. The first thing is for the club to win games and if I can help do that by coming on or starting games then that is what I will do.

“I think it would be great for the club to get into the play-offs and then ultimately get promoted. If I can have an input and help then that would be great.”
