American author Zig Ziglar once said: “Sometimes adversity is what you need to face in order to become successful.” It certainly seems the case for Hendon.

Since the Greens’ board announced the club’s playing budget would be cut as they didn’t feel reaching the Ryman Premier play-offs was realistic, Gary McCann’s side are unbeaten in all competitions.

The Greens are eighth in the table and are eight points off the play-offs. On Tuesday evening Hendon completed a 2-0 win against Carshalton Athletic.

Lee O’Leary put Hendon ahead in the 22nd minute as he met a well-worked corner and confidently headed home.

Carshalton had plenty of possession throughout the game but they couldn’t break down the Greens defence which was well marshalled by Casey Maclaren and James Fisher.

The second goal arrived after the break as Leon Smith hit a shot on the turn and his effort found the net.

The Greens were left frustrated on Saturday as their match against Bognor Regis Town was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Hendon are in Middlesex Senior Cup action this evening as they take on Hampton & Richmond Borough.
