Hendon manager Gary McCann admitted his side are suffering from mental and physical fatigue but praised their battling qualities as the Greens clinched a 1-0 win against Carshalton Athletic.

A goal from Leon Smith helped Hendon secure a narrow victory against Athletic, who sit bottom of the Ryman Premier, on Saturday.

Speaking to the club website, McCann said: “I would take another seven or eight ground-out performances like that, but we need to do a bit more.

"There is mental fatigue as well as physical, and the performance wasn't as pleasing on the eye but it was full of work-rate, endeavour and commitment. It wasn't as fluent as we would have liked, but we managed to get the win.

"We need to be better in the final third and that is not just the front two but also those from deeper on the pitch. Our wide players haven't been as effective in recent games, but that is because of tiredness.

"It has taken an awful lot to get where we are, from the management and players. It is four 1-0 wins in the last nine games and we are still just hanging-on in the play-off picture. We have to keep plugging away."

The Greens have bolstered their squad with four signings. Goalkeeper Danny McNicholas, striker Karl Oliyide, winger Oliver Sprague and Joel Dawes have all agreed moves.
