Barnet boss Martin Allen said he thoroughly enjoyed his Saturday afternoon after his Bees side completed a 2-1 win against Forest Green Rovers in the Skrill Premier.

Barnet went in front through Valentin Gjokaj but the visitors to The Hive levelled the contest when James Norwood struck in the 61st minute.

However, with ten minutes remaining, Mark Byrne volleyed home a Keanu Marsh-Brown cross to secure victory for the Bees.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my afternoon if I am honest,” Allen said after the game.

“It was a very good first half performance and a testing second half display. The crowd got behind the players and they were fantastic in the last 20 minutes after the equaliser.

“The players responded to the backing from the supporters because it was looking a little tricky at one stage.

“They showed great character and it was a good win.”

He continued: “The players have worked very hard and are conscientious. They’re honest and hardworking, as a manager or supporter you can’t ask any more than that.

“We could have perhaps played better in the second half but anybody with half a brain cell would’ve known the second half would be tricky.

“When it gets to this stage of the season it is who copes and deals with things the best. There are going to be tough times and times when it will not be easy to win.

“We changed our way of playing and it worked. We got the goal through Mark Byrne which I was delighted with because he came off last week (against Cambridge).”

The result leaves Barnet eighth in the Skrill Premier table and three points off the play-off positions.

Allen said: “There is still a long way to go and we are the underdogs. We’re outsiders without a shadow of a doubt.

“We’ve got another game on Tuesday and that’s another three points to play for.”
