Barnet Elizabethans produced a below-par performance in their final home league game of the season as they were beaten 22-10 by Royston.

Royston tried to use the wind and slope to their advantage in the first half, but could only score ten points.

An early penalty goal and a line-out move which led to a converted try was all the visitors could muster with the conditions in their favour.

With only a ten point deficit to make up and the advantages in their favour after the break, Barnet were expected to make inroads into the scoreline and quickly pulled one back when the pack rolled a maul from the Royston 22, Lloyd Morgan touching down for a try.

Instead of building on the try, Barnet went on the defensive and, whilst down to 14 men, they conceded another converted try on the counter attack.

Barnet were not firing on all cylinders, but Matt Nicholas created the break to allow David Leadbitter to move play towards the visitors' line before popping the ball inside to Lloyd Morgan for his second try.

Again though, Barnet let Royston through for a try to seal their win.

This was Barnet's fourth loss in five weeks and means that they stay in fifth place, too far behind to challenge fourth placed Old Actonians, whom they play on the final Saturday of the season.
