Wingate and Finchley have begun their summer recruitment drive with the capture of Northwood striker Nico Muir and Thurrock’s top-scorer David Knight.

Muir scored 29 times in all competitions for Northwood last season and director of football David Norman commented: “Nico is a talented striker who has a natural ability to score goals.” A former school pupil of Norman’s, Muir said: “I am looking forward to joining Wingate & Finchley as they play very good football and have great facilities.

“Hopefully I can help them achieve success next season.” Knight, 23, is a player whom the club have been monitoring since he shone for Billericay Town against the Blues two seasons ago.

He can play anywhere across the midfield but his favoured position is as a striker, where last season he finished as the second-highest scorer in the Ryman North with 37 goals for Thurrock.

Chairman Aron Sharpe said: “We are not in the habit of making multiple signings, however it is evident from our scoring tally last season that we need to score more goals as a priority. We have signed a young player that Dave, Danny [Nielsen] and I all agree is top drawer and has a big future.”

In the Ryman Premier Division, Hendon have seen defender Jack Bennett join Margate on a two-year contract.
