Dan Bradley says he did not realise he would be required to move south on a permanent basis after agreeing to join Barnet in May.

Bradley, 25, signed for the Bees from Conference rivals Alfreton Town two months ago, but after failing to feature in either of the club’s first two pre-season matches, it was confirmed the wide midfielder would be let go after a change of heart.

The England C international has now revealed the reasons behind his change of heart: “I was under the impression I’d be allowed to stay down there two or three night a week in a B&B or one of their houses, and on my day off I could come home,” Bradley told the Non League paper.

“I’ve got commitments back here with my house so I couldn’t afford to just up sticks and leave.

“Two or three weeks before pre-season Barnet got in touch and said they expected me to move down there permanently. That’s where the problems started.”

Bradley continued: “When all this came up I said to Martin, ‘I think I’ve made a mistake because I can’t come down full time’. He was really helpful, understanding and tried to do all he could. But in my head it just didn’t seem like it would work.

“At this level you have got to make ends meet as well. To go and live in Barnet, I would have been broke. Having a house here as well as down there just wasn’t financially possible for me.

“I want to apologise to everyone at Barnet and the fans because maybe I rushed into it.”

Speaking after last Tuesday's win over Stevenage, Allen said: "Dan was an early signing in the summer but he had a chat with a me a few times over the phone in the summer, saying that he didn't really want to come down here and that he thought he'd made the wrong decision.

"We’ve been having a few ongoing chats that we couldn’t really disclose to the public. I’m sure that everyone will understand that legally we had to do things properly," he added.
