Wingate and Finchley suffered their second consecutive home pre-season defeat after going down 2-1 to Redbridge on Tuesday.

The hosts were made to pay for their failure to convert from a string of early corners when Lee Newton put the Motormen ahead. Caught out by a high line, Wingate found themselves behind when Newton stole through to chip over Cain Davies after just seven minutes.

Debutant Lee Brennan tested Redbridge goalkeeper Mark Parker soon after but the visitors' number one was able to keep out Brennan's 25-yard effort.

The Ryman Premier League side equalised when Rob Laney headed home from Marc Weatherstone's overhead cross. Laney could have had a second soon after but dragged his shot wide.

A number of personnel changes and a change of strip at the break did not aid Danny Nielsen's side, and with five minutes left on the club, the Ryman Division One North side grabbed the win From a free-kick in a dangerous area, Leon Smith was left unmarked and allowed to nod home the winner for the Essex outfit.

Last Saturday, Wingate were beaten 8-3 by Conference South side St Albans City.

Warren McBean put the visiting Saints ahead early on but Ola Sogbanmu levelled in the 13th minute.

Two goals in the space of a minute from Sam Corocan put St Albans in the driving seat before Sogbanmu dragged Wingate back into the contest after half an hour.

From there, though, the visitors took charge, with Steve Wales (2), John Frendo, Lee Clarke and James Comley all netting. Nico Muir notched in the 90th minute but it was nothing more than a consolation.

Wingate host Conference South new-boys Wealdstone this Saturday.

Hendon beat Spartan South Midlands side Tring Athletic 2-1 on Tuesday in the first of three friendlies this week.

Played across four periods of 25 minutes, Gary McCann's side scored the goals in the final two quarters; Lee O'Leary and Michael Murray the scorers for the Greens.

Hendon travel to Leverstock Green this evening (Thursday) before making the trip to Uxbridge on Saturday.

Andre Da Costa, formerly of AFC Bournemouth, Macclesfield Town and Bishop's Stortford has agreed to join Hendon after impressing on trial.

The 23-year-old Portuguese has also played in Cyprus and Malta.
