Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers’ Nathan Fox and Daniel Lewis came sixth and seventh respectively in the men’s triple jump final at the Commonwealth Games.

The pair were comfortably behind overall winner Khotso Mokoen in Saturday night’s final, with the South African jumping a distance of 17.20m – some 36cm ahead of Nigerian Tosin Oke in second place.

Fox, representing England, opened with 15.56m and after failing to record a distance with his next two attempts, extended his distance to 16.26m with his penultimate effort.

Jamaican Lewis set his best distance of 16.09m with his second effort but was unable to build on it, recording two sub-16m jumps with his remaining attempts.

Club-mate Kris Robertson was part of the Scottish 4x400m relay time to finish fifth in last night’s final, with England (3.00.46) taking gold.

The Scots finished in 3.04.07, with Bahamas in second place in a time of 3.00.51 and Trinidad and Tobago scooping bronze by crossing the line in 3.01.51.

In the women’s pole vault final, Northern Irish medal hope Zoe Brown suffered disappointment as she failed to record a mark.

Potter had set the second best height of the season (4.45m) among the field but was unable to replicate that form in the final.

The 30-year-old failed to clear the opening height of 3.80m in heavy rain, with five of the ten finalists suffering the same fate after a delay of 45 minutes due to the treacherous conditions at Hampden Park.

Australian Alana Boyd cleared 4.50m to take the gold medal, with Wales’ Sally Peake taking the silver with a height of 4.25m. Scotland’s Beth Potter came ninth in the women’s 5,000m final, managing a time of 15.44.38.

Kenyan Mercy Cherono won in 15.07.21, with 22-year-old Potter competing in her first Commonwealth Games in her home city
