Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers pair, Richard Morrissey and Seb Rodger, have both qualified for the semi-finals of their respective events at the European Athletics Championships in Zurich.

Ireland’s Morrissey reached the semi-finals of the men’s 400m by setting a new personal best, qualifying for the next round by securing one of the best runner-up spots.

Morrissey, 21, reached tomorrow night’s semi-finals by clocking a time of 46.20 as he finished sixth in heat two.

Team GB’s Rodger made easier work of reaching the semi-finals of the men’s 400m hurdles, finishing third in his heat.

A time of 49.88 was enough for the 21-year-old to cross the line in third place and Rodger will now compete in tomorrow’s semi-final, due to start at 5.55pm.

The 400m final is being held on Friday at 6.50pm, with the 400m hurdles final to follow at 8.52pm on Friday evening.

Beth Potter is the only other Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers member competing in Switzerland.

The 10,000m distance runner is in tonight’s women’s final at 8.56pm.
