Despite getting the response he “expected” Martin Allen says he didn’t congratulate “any” of his players after Barnet’s 2-0 win at Nuneaton Town this afternoon, instead focussing on Monday’s game with Dartford.

The Bees were comfortable winners at Liberty Way, putting last Saturday's defeat by Lincoln City behind them, with captain Charlie MacDonald scoring twice and missing a penalty in clear and deserved win for the visitors.

MacDonald scored from the spot after eight minutes, before stabbing home a second following non-existent marking at a corner just five minutes later, to set the Bees on their way to a third win from four Conference matches.

Assessing the result, Allen said he had witnessed the response he “expected” against the winless Boro.

He said: “It’s good [to get the win] because after last week’s game, everyone was a little bit deflated and everyone was a little bit disappointed but it was the response today I expected.

“I don’t think I’ve said well done to anyone after the game, all I spoke about was getting them ready for Monday.

"There was no de-brief after the game, it was only: ‘Get in dressing room, get warmed down, get some good food inside you, get in the ice bath and let’s go home’.”

The Bees head coach continued: “They’ve been very good in training and they’ve been very focussed in training but, as a manager, you never know what is going to happen on a Saturday afternoon and I’ve got to say, I thought it was a very impressive performance with good discipline and a clean sheet – a good, solid overall team performance.”

Comfortably ahead after 13 minutes and displaying their superiority by creating plenty of good chances, the Bees tested Nuneaton goalkeeper Reice Charles-Cook on several occasions without adding a third.

Asked if he was disappointed his side had not gone on to make their dominance count as they had at Chester on the opening day of the season, Allen said Barnet had achieved their aim for the day.

“The job we set out was the win the game and we won the game – [we got] a clean sheet, two goals and a solid, sensible, professional, honest performance; nothing spectacular, nothing unbelievable,” replied Allen.

“It was just a solid, decent away performance. But to do that, you’ve got to have decent players and you’ve got to have all your players trying to fit into the teamwork and that’s what we had today.”
