London Broncos head coach Joey Grima has extended his contract with the club until the end of the 2016 campaign.

The Australian joined the club in February this year as assistant to Tony Rea, but stepped up to replace him as head coach in May.

His original contract with the Broncos had been due to expire at the end of the current campaign.

Speaking to the club's website, Grima said: "I'm absolutely delighted that (chairman) David Hughes has given me this opportunity. My wife and I are extremely happy at how the fans, the club and the rugby league community have embraced us.

"Living in London, one of the best cities in the world, has created an enormous opportunity for my family. I'm so happy that the UK will be my adopted country for the next two years."

He continued: "I've had to make some difficult decisions, particularly with the player roster moving forward, and I felt that I needed to create the right winning culture. I'm delighted with the squad we have and the great cross section of youth, enthusiasm, experience and maturity.

"Not only am I taking on this role to build a successful rugby league firsts programme but also so we have a successful youth and scholarship programme."

General manager Jason Loubser added: "We are delighted to secure Joey as head coach for a further two years. The work that Joey has put in since his arrival back in February has been exceptional.

"As a club we are in a great position with our planning for next season both with the squad that has been assembled and also with other behind the scenes work at the club."

Grima spent 19 years with NRL Side Parramatta Eels as a player and coach and has previously been assistant at Cronulla Sharks and the St George-Illawarra Dragons.

A hooker during his playing days, Grima also spent two years as head coach of the Maltan national team.

Following the Broncos relegation to the Kingstone Press Championship, Grima has set about re-building his squad, making no fewer than 15 additions ahead of the 2015 campaign at the Broncos' first outside the Super League.
