Hendon boss Gary McCann felt his side would not have been in the position to draw at Bury Town if they had taken their chances earlier in the game.

Leading 2-1, the Greens were almost pegged back by the Ryman Premier Division strugglers, who missed a penalty at the death.

McCann's side then grabbed a third goal in injury time to seal the points, but the outcome could have been very different on another day.

Said McCann: "If we had taken our three good chances in the second half we wouldn't have been in the position where we nearly lost two points.

"Would I have been disappointed to have dropped two points? Of course yes, but would I have thought it unjust to only get a draw - no, but we had to grind out the win and I'm pleased that we did."

The Greens took the lead after 21 minutes when Leon Smith headed home from Andre Da Costa's inswinging cross.

Thirteen minutes later the hosts were level; Jordan Patrick picking out Russell Short to fire past McNamara.

Kezie Ibe restored Hendon's lead before the break, looping a shot over Bury keeper Alex Archer thanks to a deflection.

In the 90th minute McNamara saved Chris Benjamin's penalty before Ibe notched his second in injury time.

Hendon's Isthmian League Cup tie at Enfield Town on Tuesday was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. The Greens make the trip to Ebbsfleet United in the FA Trophy on Saturday.
