Currently sixth in the Conference with ten games to play, Eastleigh look the side most likely to break into a top five which has broken away from the rest of the pack in recent weeks.

The Spitfires have played two games less than Forest Green Rovers, currently fifth and occupying the last play-off spot, and are backed up by the momentum of four consecutive victories prior to the visit of Barnet.

During that run both Bristol Rovers and Macclesfield Town have perished against Richard Hill’s side, who boast the best form in the division over the last six games, picking up 15 points from a possible 18.

Hill’s men also boast the second-best attack in the Conference having scored 69 goals – eight less than The Bees.

A 3-1 win over Kidderminster Harriers help boost that figure on Tuesday night, with The Spitfires including in their ranks the Conference’s player of the month for February in Jai Reason.

The midfielder was on target against Kiddy, scoring the third after Dan Walker and former Bee Jack Midson had already netted.

Reflecting on his award, the former Ipswich Town, Cambridge United and Braintree Town midfielder said: “I am really happy to have won the award for the month of February, it’s been a good month for the football club and me but I wouldn’t have got this award without the hard work from my team mates and everyone at the club.

“Now looking forward to the end of the season and for the final push towards the play-offs.”

There is no lack of striking talent at the Silverlake Stadium with veteran forward Deon Burton recently joining a front line with includes Ben Strevens, James Constable, Walker and former Barnet duo Midson and Craig McAllister.

Constable is the stand-out name, the 30-year-old leaving Oxford United in the summer when just one goal shy of the club’s goalscoring record.

With 13 league goals in 31 starts, the former Shrewsbury Town and Kidderminster striker is the club’s top scorer and has three goals more to his name than Reason.

Enticing Constable to join from League Two Oxford was quite the coup for the Conference newcomers, who only won promotion to the top tier of non-league football last season by lifting the Conference South.

The Spitfires were poor in the first half at Aggborough on Tuesday and speaking to the Daily Echo, boss Hill admitted he enjoyed telling a few home truths at the break.

He said: “I quite like it when I have a pop at them at half-time ... not to be personal, but tell them a few home truths.

“Then they throw in a performance in the second half that basically throws two fingers up at me and tells me ‘there you go’.

“It doesn’t hurt once a while for me to stand there and tell a couple of them that they could be doing better.”

October’s meeting at The Hive was the first time Barnet and Eastleigh had met in competitive action and Sam Hoskins’ first-half effort was enough to seal the points for Martin Allen’s side in a 1-0 win.

Eastleigh starting XI v Kidderminster Harriers (10.03.15): Flitney; Spence, Beckwith, Partington, Green; Stanley, Pell, Reason; Midson, Constable, Walker.
