Hendon manager Gary McCann believes the Greens’ Ryman Premier title challenge will end on Saturday if they are beaten by league leaders Maidstone United.

McCann’s side are currently second in the table and sit eight points behind United. However, they have two games in hand on the Stones.

The Greens boss admits a draw for his side from Saturday’s clash wouldn’t be ideal but appreciates it is imperative they do not suffer defeat.

He said: "You don’t need to try and dress the game up, do you? It is a hugely important game for us and one that we really want to win.

"Would a draw be the worst result? Probably not but it would make things difficult. We can’t be beaten though.

"If we lose than that would put us 11 points behind. Realistically we are not going to make that up before the season ends so if we lose on Saturday then that is the title challenge over."

The Hendon boss, whose side face local rivals Wingate and Finchley on Easter Monday, added "Maidstone will come to win, I am sure of that. My lads have been unbelievable in the last few weeks though and we are confident.

"It is a shoot-out in effect. We win and that gives us a great chance. We lose and we will probably finish in the play-offs."

The Greens defeated Leatherhead United 2-0 on Saturday thanks to goals from Aaron Morgan and Casey Maclaren.

Two days earlier the club marked their first match as Silver Jubilee Park by reaching the London Senior Cup semi final following a 5-1 win against Corinthian Casuals.

An own goal, a brace from Aaron Morgan and further strikes from Leon Smith and Kezie Ibe sealed the Greens’ passage into the last four.
