Bristol Rovers boss Darrell Clarke insists the Gas have nothing to lose ahead of Saturday’s Conference finale, with Barnet in pole position to seal promotion.

Victory for the Bees at home to tenth-placed Gateshead will render Rovers’ result at home to relegation-threatened Alfreton Town meaningless for Martin Allen’s side.

However, if the Bees match the Pirates’ result, they will still seal the title.

And after both sides drew 1-1 last weekend - Barnet at Kidderminster Harriers and Rovers at Dover Athletic - it is Allen’s Bees who go into the final day with their title destiny in their own hands.

Speaking to the Bristol Post, Clarke said: “We’ve got two chances. We’ve got a chance to win the league or we have a chance to get through in the play-offs, so we really have nothing to lose.

“I’d have certainly taken that scenario after we’d lost at Altrincham to end a terrible first week of the season with only one point from three games.

“We’ve been chasing for most of the season, so I don’t think there is any pressure on us other than we know that we have to win our own game. That is all we can do.”

Skipper Mark McChrystal, who won the League of Ireland league during his time with Derry City, has stressed the importance of trying to enjoy the occasion in front of what will be a sold out Memorial Stadium.

He stated: “You don’t get the chance to play for a league title too many times in your career so you have to enjoy these sorts of games.

“It doesn’t get much more dramatic than two teams fighting it out for the title on the last day of the season.

“I’ve experienced both sides of the coin in that I have both won a title and have also lost one on the final day of a season.

“The one thing that I have learned from those experiences is that you must just go out and play the game and forget about everything else that is going on around you.

“Of course there will be a lot more emotion around and we really are at crunch time in front of a packed stadium, but, for me, it is the same as the other 45 games we have played this season. I go out and try to win every game on any given Saturday and this one will be no different.”
