Stanmore were 28-run winners over Southgate in Middlesex League Division One thanks to Jimi Chalafous’ unbeaten knock of 70.

Talha Azam (42) opened well for Stanmore, who relied heavily on the middle order runs laid on by Mark Ramprakash (52) and Chalafous (70) in reaching 255 for seven.

Mukesh Butt (five for 33) then tore into the Southgate line-up. Early knocks from Lasith Lakshan (45) and Tom Edrich (46) were not enough for the hosts, who could only make 228 for nine in their 50 overs.

Muhammed Arshad’s three for 24 proved in vain as Finchley slumped to a three-wicket defeat at home to North Middlesex in Division One on Saturday.

Finchley won the toss and decided to bat first. They made an encouraging start via Fred Daeche-Marshall (34) and Jake Milton (47) but steadily the run-rate dropped off and they were all out for 209.

The visitors made a less-than-convincing start with the bat - thanks largely to Arshad (three for 24) - but recovered from losing both openers cheaply to reach 210 with three wickets in hand.

In the Hertfordshire League Premier Division, Potters Bar eked out a 23-run success as Letchworth Garden City.

Liam Gough (49) and Nick McLachlan (52 not out) starred for the visitors, racking up 12 boundaries between them to help Potters Bar to a total of 230 for six.

McLachlan then took over with the ball, claiming three for 43, whilst Don Manuwelge managed three for 42 as Stanmore removed their hosts for 207.

Totteridge Millhillians just got home at Chorleywood as Shaun O’Brien’s score proved key in a seven-run Championship win.

O’Brien (81) top scored for the visitors, who also saw opener Hayden Butterworth (61) put on a big innings in a total of 252 all out.

Chorleywood’s Scott Aspinall hit a huge 120 but Butterworth (three for 45) returned the best figures with the ball as the hosts were removed just in time, having posted 245.

Old Elizabethans had the bowling of Dominic Goring to thank for their 66-run win over Hertford Seconds in Division Three A.

James Heavey (55) and Paul Lissowski (36) had led the way for the Elizabethans in putting up a total of 212 all out.

And then Goring (three for 35) and Saqlan Ahmed (two for 13) took charge with the ball to skittle out Hertford for just 146.
