Barnet's Conference-winning captain and former boss Ian Hendon will return to the club next season after being appointed head coach at League Two rivals Leyton Orient.

The 43-year-old, who skippered the Conference-winning side of 2005, will leave Premier League side West Ham United to take up the reins at Brisbane Road from July 1.

Hendon made 158 appearances for the Bees across two spells and scored 21 times before retiring and joining the club's coaching staff.

His stint as Barnet boss ended after a year with the club 22nd in League Two and two matches of the season remaining.

However, the fomer full-back had saved the Bees from the drop the previous season after being appointed caretaker following Paul Fairclough's resignation. A turnaround in form saw him handed the job on a full-time basis ahead of the 2009/10 campaign.

A brief spell in charge of Dover Athletic in June 2010 ended after just 18 days to become assistant manager at Gillingham.

In 2011 Hendon became development coach at West Ham before being promoted the following year to first-team coach under Sam Allardyce.
