Saracens’ Nick Tompkins grabbed a try as England Under-20s progressed to the final of the Under-20s World Championship by beating South Africa 28-20 on Monday.

The victory will see the Red Rose face New Zealand in a decider on Saturday after the All Blacks beat France convincingly in Italy.

Aaron Morris and George Perkins were also in action for England, with the latter setting up his teammate’s score.

Tompkins grabbed England’s third of the game as the clock ticked into the last ten minutes. Perkins’ break gave the centre the chance to cross, which he duly did to put England 28-6 in front.

Malcolm Jaer and Daniel Du Plessis scored late on for South Africa to make England sweat, but the trio helped their country over the line to reach the final.

Tompkins and Morris have played an Under-20s final before, while Perkins is set to play in his first final.

England, who are defending champions, were captained by Saracens’ Maro Itoje last year as they lifted the silverware and in 2013, Matt Hankin and Scott Spurling were part of the victorious side.
