Several Barnet Copthall swimmers are heading east to take part in this summer’s swimming World Championships in Russia as well as the European Youth Olympic Festival in Georgia.

Haris Bandey, 16, will compete in the 200m individual medley and the 400m freestyle for Pakistan at the World Championships in Kazan, alongside sister Anum Bandey, 18, who will race in the 100m and 200m breaststroke.

Gaurika Singh will represent Nepal in the 100m backstroke and 100m freestyle events at just 12 years of age.

Meanwhile, 16-year-old Joe Zlotnick is heading to Tbilisi for the European Youth Olympic Festival and will represent Sweden in the 50m freestyle and the 4x100m freestyle relay.

As well as international representation, this summer also sees nine Barnet Copthall swimmers head to Sheffield to take part in the British Summer Championships, plus a further six to the ASA Summer Championships where many of the best swimmers in England will compete.

Barnet Copthall’s head coach Rhys Gormley said: “I am delighted so many of the Barnet swimmers are involved this year in international and national events.

“The club has not had three swimmers at one World Championship before and it shows how the club is moving forward.”

The European Youth Olympic Festival takes place in Tbilisi from July 26 to August 4, while the FINA World Championships in Kazan run from July 24 to August 9.

The British Summer Championships (July 28 to August 2) and the ASA Summer Championships (August 4 to August 9) will both take place at Sheffield Pond’s Forge.
