London Broncos hit 22 unanswered second-half points to overcome Hunslet Hawks 34-12 at The Hive on Sunday and seal their fourth consecutive Championship victory.

Andrew Henderson’s side remain sixth in the league standings – level on points with Halifax RLFC in the final play-off place – thanks largely to a hat-trick from Fijian international Wes Naiqama.

There was also a welcome debut from Frenchman William Barthau from the bench. The 25-year-old French international joined the Broncos in the summer from Catalans Dragons but has missed the entire campaign due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained at the Rugby League World Cup last year.

The Broncos opened the scoring after nine minutes when Elliot Kear evaded the Hawks full-back to score to the left of the posts. Naiqama added the extras.

And Naiqama then crossed the line himself, running a good line and collecting Tom Gilmore’s pass before going over and converting his own score.

Matt Glee pulled one back for the visitors after 22 minutes with Jordan Lilley converting.

Five minutes before the break Hunslet added a third try as Robbie Ward this time went over, Lilley pulling his side level.

After the break Oscar Thomas went under the sticks after being picked out by Jamie Thackray before Naiqama kicked the extras.

A further two points were added five minutes later after the Broncos opted to kick a 20m penalty and Naiqama further enhanced his personal points tally with a second try after 64 minutes.

He missed the conversion but atoned for that rare blot on his copybook by completing his hat-trick a mere four minutes later from a similar position to his second, just in front the touchline.

Naiqama failed to convert his own try from an acute angle but that was forgotten just two minutes later as Rhys Williams got in on the act, crossing the whitewash after a pass from Matt Garside found him in space to blast over.
