A huge knock of 138 from Finchley’s Jake Milton guided his side to a 182-run thrashing of Southgate in Middlesex Division One on Saturday.

Having won the toss and elected to bat first, hosts Finchley made a less-than-impressive start losing openers George Charlton and Mush Bukhari for ducks, leaving the home side on eight for two early on.

However, batting at three Milton came to the crease and smashed his way to 138 from 157 deliveries, hitting 21 fours en-route to a spectacular ton.

And his knock lifted the rest of the Finchley side as Majed Ali (57), Hassan Khan (35) and Joseph Emanuel (36) all put on good scores, boosting the hosts’ total to 287 for seven before declaring.

Southgate made a reasonable start through Lasith Lakshan (27) and James Thompson (19) before the Finchley bowling attack took over.

Muhammad Arshad (four for 21), Hassan Khan (four for 23) and Frahan Butt (two for 47) excelled as Southgate suddenly collapsed, putting just five runs on the board as they lost as many wickets with alarming speed.

The ship was eventually steadied by an unbeaten 30 from Ayush Sahota but the visitors could only reach 105 all out.

Stevie Eskinazi hit a century to steer Stanmore to a comfortable five-wicket win at Richmond elsewhere in Division One.

The home side opted to bat first having won the toss but soon lost opener Andrew Plummer (10) to Marc Reingold (one of 44).

An effective period of bowling from Stanmore followed, with Tushaar Karia (five for 43) and Steven Reingold (four for 38) restricting their hosts effectively.

Ryan Higgins made 63 but that was as good as it got for Richmond, who were eventually all out for 184.

In reply, Stanmore opener Umesh Valjee (18) fell with the visitors on 74 as Eskinazi (105 not out) led their response.

A knock of 37 further down the order from Jay Parmar helped Stanmore home, reaching 185 with five wickets in hand after 41.3 overs.

In the Herts League Premier Division, Potters Bar’s trip to North Mymms was abandoned after one innings due to the rain.

Hosts North Mymms set an imposing total of 284 for six from 60 overs, with Syed Kazmi unbeaten on 107.

Nick McLachlan took three wickets but they came at a cost of 71 runs conceded from 16 overs.

Potters Bar were spared a run chase as the heavens opened, meaning not a single ball of the second over was bowled.

In the Herts League Championship, Totteridge Millhillians’ clash at home to Botany Bay was also lost to the inclement weather.

Put into bat, Totteridge made a bright start with opener Hayden Butterworth hitting 47. And the runs continued to flow through the top order, with Shaun O’Brien (29), Steve Selwood (46) and Chris Mason (53) all getting in on the act.

However, the tail failed to follow suit and Totteridge were eventually removed for a good total of 238.

Botany Bay’s innings was just 17.2 overs old, though, when the game was lost to the weather. The away side were on 86 for one at the time.

In Division Three A, Old Elizabethans’ fixture at Knebworth Park Seconds was also ended prematurely by a downpour.

The hosts were removed for 191 but the contest went no further due to the rain.

Mill Hill Village were another side who saw their afternoon cut short by the weather as their Division Six B tussle with Abbots Langley Seconds was abandoned.

Abbotts have been removed for 195 and in reply, Mill Hill were on 58 without loss when the heavens opened.

Potters Bar are bottom of the Herts League County Twenty20 Group A after a seven-wicket loss at Stevenage.

The visitors were underwhelming with the bat after winning the toss and lost openers James Scott (1) and George Scott (5) without making an impression on the scoring.

Patrick Scott (35) and Ben Taylor (27) did lay on some runs but that was as good as it got before the away side closed on 107 for six.

Stevenage were more confident in the middle and reached 109 with seven wickets in hand; Jason Chapman top scoring with an unbeaten 32.

In Group B, Totteridge Millhillians conceded their fixture at Reed. They remain bottom of the group and without a point.
