Abishek Kulkarni’s six-for helped Stanmore leapfrog Finchley with a one-wicket victory in Division One of the Middlesex League on Saturday.

Hosts Finchley won the toss and elected to bat first. Opener George Charlton went a long way towards vindicating that decision as he put on 79.

But his opening partner Cameron Steel (0) and the rest of the top order failed to follow suit to leave Finchley in a precarious position.

It was Kulkarni who was the tormentor, helping himself to figures of six for 36 to quickly work his way through the hosts’ line-up.

An important 67 not out from Sunil Tailor left Finchley having posted 210 all out from 57 overs.

Stanmore shared the runs around but the key knock belonged to Chamika Karunar, who put on an unbeaten 57 from just 58 deliveries to help steer his side to a winning total of 212 for nine.

Hassan Khan took four for 47 for Finchley but his efforts were in vain.

In the Herts League Premier Division, Potters Bar are very much in the title race after a resounding 157-run win at Welwyn Garden City.

James Scott (53) and Nick McLachlan (45) opened encouragingly for visiting Potters. The middle order then hit their stride, laying on runs to nudge the away side up to 284 for nine.

Nick McLachlan starred with the ball, taking three for 47 to leave Welwyn struggling on nought for two. James Illot (four for 25) assisted with their dismissal for just 127.

Old Finchleians are in the relegation zone with a 99-run home to defeat by Dunstable Town their latest missed chance in Division One.

Put into bat, Dunstable took full advantage of that invite and a knock of 105 from Bradley Matthews laid the foundations for a big total of 257 for four before declaring.

Old Finchleians never got going in reply with Hardik Savani (30) top scoring in a disappointing reply of 158 all out.

In the Championship, Totteridge Millhillians eased to a six-wicket win at Hoddesdon despite the hosts boasting a pair of centurions.

Chasing 291 for seven, Totteridge openers Hayden Butterworth (80) and Chris Mason (74) set the tone for a profitable innings as the visitors reached 293 with six wickets in hand.

In Division Six B, Mill Hill Village extended their unbeaten run to nine matches, increasing their lead at the top to 29 points.

Opening bowlers David Overton (six for 38) and Saahil Mehra (four for 39) bowled devastating opening spells, ending St Margaretsbury’s innings after just 19 overs.

The rampant Village top order, led by Naz Asif (49), then had no trouble knocking off the required 77 runs inside 10 overs.
