British and newly-crowned European Junior 800m champion Kyle Langford is set to take on the world’s best this Saturday when he competes in the Olympic Stadium.

The 19-year-old Shaftesbury Barnet Harrier is one of 11 athletes on the entry list for the Anniversary Games 800m, which was released yesterday, and the field is also scheduled to include two of the greatest names in the history of the event.

Kenyan star David Rudisha produced what is widely regarded as the best two-lap performance of all-time in London 2012 when he led from start to finish to become the first man in history to break the 1.41 barrier and set a new world record of 1.40.91.

The 2011 World champion was followed home by an exhausted Nijel Amos three years ago but the Botswanan currently leads Rudisha in the global rankings, having claimed two Diamond League victories this year.

Also set to take to the start line is reigning European champion Adam Kszczot while the other British athlete in the race is Michael Rimmer, the seven-time national champion who Langford beat to win the British crown in Birmingham earlier this month.

Langford has also ready met Amos and the Polish athlete on the Diamond League stage this year, with the pair finishing first and second respectively in Birmingham while the former Francis Combe pupil was seventh in their June encounter.

The Olympic Stadium track is well known for its speed and the Watford-born athlete will be hoping to use this to his advantage as he goes in search of the 1.46.00 qualifying time he needs to reach next month’s World Championships in China.
