Hendon boss Gary McCann declared himself delighted with a "performance of real quality" as the Greens continued their unbeaten start to the new season with a 3-0 win at Needham Market on Saturday.

The win was the Greens’ second of the season and lifts McCann’s men, beaten in last season’s Isthmian Premier Division Play-Off Final by Margate, up to fourth in the early league standings.

“I am delighted with the way that we played and the result,” said McCann. “I thought it was a performance of real quality and we dominated the match throughout.

“It was a baking hot day and I made it clear to the players before the game that it was our remit to keep possession and we did it brilliantly, especially in the 15 or so minutes before half time.”

McCann continued: “Our half time talk was emphasise to the players that we had to keep our discipline and concentration and to also be ruthless when the chances were presented to us.

"In that period at the end of the first half I thought we should have been more than two goals to the good.

“What pleased me was the performance of every player, including Joe Wright who made two really good saves and I was delighted with the way he reacted after making that save from a header late in the second half.”

The front two pairing of Aaron Morgan and Leon Smith made life hard for Needham from the outset with goalkeeper Shaun Phillips blocking well from Smith early on.

But in the 15th minute Smith found a way past the Marketmen goalkeeper, drilling home low to open the scoring.

Morgan went close five minutes later before opening his account for the afternoon by rounding Phillips and slotting into the empty net.

Meanwhile, Wingate & Finchley extended their winning run to three games by edging out Kingstonian 2-1 at Summers Lane.

Wingate took the lead after skipper Marc Weatherstone cleared off the line in the 24th minute.

Simon Lane’s side broke ruthlessly and went in front when Karl Oliyide lobbed K's goalkeeper Elvijs Putnins, allowing Billy Healey to volley in a third of the season.

Healey went close again when he nodded wide from a Leon Solomon cross but snatched a second after the restart after more good work by forward Oliyide.

The visitors made sure Wingate could not cruise to victory by pulling one back with ten minutes remaining through Dan Bennett.

Blues goalkeeper Bobby Smith then preserved the win at the death with a stunning double stop.

Wingate & Finchley go to Needham Market on Tuesday.

In the Spartan South Midlands Division One, Edgware Town saw their unbeaten record go with a 1-0 defeat by Buckingham Athletic.
